Travel plan - 3 days

Saying goodbye to the complex network of streets in Fes is like opening up to a world of new discoveries. Get ready for a desert adventure, crossing the spectacular Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you’ll lose your eyes on cedar plantations and bubbling rivers, among the most fascinating in Morocco. Our stop is positioned in Ifrane, in the heart of the Azrou region, famous as the ‘Switzerland of Morocco’ for its popularity among winter sports enthusiasts.

We stop in Midelt for a short break and then continue on to Merzouga. As we approach Erfoud, we will already feel the desert sand between our fingers. But it is only in front of the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi, in the vicinity of the oasis of Merzouga, that we will realize we are in the heart of the real desert. A place where nothing grows or moves except the oasis, a place beaten only by incessant wind and rainfall that rarely exceeds 100 millimeters per year.

The last stop of the day is a tented camp, where we will reach the bivouac for the night on camelback. Here, upon arrival, a traditional dinner awaits you around the fire under a star-studded sky. Don’t miss a single second of this unique natural spectacle! Your night ends in a tent, lulled by the voices of the desert. An unforgettable experience awaits you!

Waking up at dawn, just like the nomads, masters in adapting to the desert environment, will give you a unique experience. You will witness the enchanting spectacle of the sun emerging through the dunes, in a panorama that has inspired artists, writers and photographers from around the world. Here, on the threshold of Morocco, the horizon stretches to infinity, and as American writer Paul Bowles described it in ‘Tea in the Desert,’ it is a “purely mineral landscape lit by stars like rockets, where even memory disappears.”

Slowly reentering civilization, return to your accommodation for a refreshing breakfast, greeting the silence of the desert with a camel ride. We enter the road again, this time in the direction of the Valley of Roses. We first visit the impressive Todra Gorges, marvelous natural creations set in the valley of the small Oued Rheriss tributary-a sight unparalleled in all of Morocco.

We continue the journey to Boumalne Dadès, and we enter the fascinating Dadès Gorges. The landscape before our eyes is unique: breathtaking scenery at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. And among the legends that shroud these places, lions are said to have made their home there, although the most reliable historical sources tell us that the last specimen was culled in the early 1900s.

Eventually, we reach the Valley of Roses, where we make a stop at Kelaat M’Gouna, the capital of this rose oasis. This place has two faces: the first, delicate, will captivate you with the scent of freshly picked petals, while the second, more impressive, is related to the famous dagger ceremony. You will then discover two sides of Kelaat M’Gouna, the gentle and the rougher, before ending the day with dinner at our hotel.

We continue our journey, heading to Marrakech, also known as the ‘red city.’ This nickname comes from the city’s 12-kilometer-long walls, a legacy of the Almoravid dynasty era. However, before we reach Marrakech, we take a break in Ouarzazate. This former stopping point for caravans is now a thriving tourist center, aptly called the ‘Hollywood of Africa’ due to the many film productions that take place there.

Our route then takes us through the Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass, a place of outstanding natural beauty located at an altitude of 2260 meters. Here we make a stop to visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We continue our journey through the Atlas Mountains, admiring the endless shades of colors that tint the landscape, with the reds, greens and vivid tones of conifers, palms and oleanders.

Our next stop is Telouet, where we visit its fascinating Kasbah, which was once the residence of the last Pasha of Marrakech. Eventually, we arrive in Marrakech at sunset, putting the perfect finishing touch on our memorable trip with our entry into the beautiful Red City.
