Marrakech to Chegaga Dunes

Start the day in the direction of the spiritual center of Thamegrout, home of the famous Zaouia Naciria, an important branch of the Sufi Tariqa Chadhiliyya brotherhood. This place of devotion has had a significant impact not only on the spiritual, but also on the socio-economic and political fabric of Morocco, and many other countries. Don’t miss its library, which holds a treasure trove of 4,000 manuscripts, including a copy of the Koran written on gazelle skins.

We then continue to the imposing dunes of Cheggaga, passing through the pottery town and on past Tagounite. Here, the Draa River recedes, leaving a landscape of increasingly arid oases. According to the people of Mhamid, these waters were once lost in the dunes and have not reached the sea for a long time.

But the excitement does not end there. You will spend the night in an authentic nomadic tent next to the fascinating sand dunes of Erg Chegaga, one of the most remote and arid areas of southern Morocco. An intense experience that brings you closer to the true essence of the desert.

After a hearty and invigorating breakfast, immerse yourself in the arid and breathtaking desert landscape by following the trail along Djbel Bani to Foum Zguid. From here, we take the road to Ouarzazate, passing through picturesque Tazenaft.

Your journey is enriched even more at lunch. Get ready to set out to discover Ait Ben Haddou, a charming village 30 km from Ouarzazate, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The day continues through the lush High Atlas Mountains and down through Taddert to the Haouz plain.
